Queen Rearing Workshop with Mel Disselkoen: On-the-Spot Method Queen Rearing
"On the spot queen rearing" was discovered and popularized by Mel Disselkoen. He learned that you can easily direct the bees to raise queen cells on any frame with 36-hour or younger larvae by moving the queen to another hive and notching below said larvae. The original now-queenless colony will quickly raise high-quality queen cells you can use to requeen or increase your colony count.
Workshop will start promptly in the Auditorium at 11:00 am with Mels Powerpoint Presentation on his OTS queen rearing system, and how to incorporate this system into your own Apiary to raise high quality queens at the right time of the season from your own overwintered winter Michigan stock. Followed up with a question and answer session and a demonstration by Mel on how to notch the frames.
