August's Monthly Meeting: Mite Biting Behavior - How to Improve Your Apiary the Inexpensive Way

Topic: Mite Biting Behavior

Dorothey will explain mite biting behavior, finding it in your state, replacing your queen inexpensively, and expanding your apiary.
The main presentation starts at 7 pm, but feel free to drop in beginning at 6:30 pm for a beginners' Q&A session.

Dorothey Morgan is President and founder of Kentucky Queen Bee Breeders' Association, board member of Heartland Honey Bee Breeders Co-op, Instrumental Inseminator, and founding member of Chasing Feral Honey Bees. Dorothey has been a resident of Kentucky since 2001 after retiring from the Anchorage Fire Department in Alaska. She spent 23 years serving Anchorage as Master Firefighter, Swift Water tech., Auto Extraction Specialist, and firehouse cook. Dorothey began her honey bee passion in 2010. In 2016 she learned to inseminate, and the following year began inseminating at Purdue Honey Bee Fest. She was very involved with Purdue Bee Lab and Heartland Honey Bee Breeders Co-op, who markets their queens. She inseminates 100 queens yearly specializing in mite biting behavior. Dorothey manages Chasing Feral Honey Bees; she has a team that collects feral swarms in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky and Central Ohio.

Ann Arbor Backyard Beekeepers Club (A2B2) is dedicated to beekeeping education, mentoring, networking, and advocacy within the Ann Arbor area. We provide an informational and social venue for beekeepers of all levels to cooperate and share experiences. We are a non-profit organization that is open to all individuals interested in honeybees and beekeeping.  Donations qualify for federal tax deductions.
